Yoga includes the practices to maintain the physical health, to develop mental clarity and to achieve emotional harmony. That reflects in the coordination among thoughts, words and action in the personality and at the same time to live a disease free life. It includes the practices of asana, pranayama mudra, bandha, satkarma, pratyahara, dharana etc. As everyone has a unique personality; the practices of yoga are multiethnic in nature. Those practices that seem relevant for this course from many aspects are discussed here. Asana is often misunderstood as physical exercise. These practices are not exercises, but techniques which place the physical body in positions with co-ordination of breath that cultivate awareness, relaxation and concentration. As part of this process is the development of good physical health by stretching, massaging and stimulating the panic channels and internal organs. Almost all the systems of the body are stimulated, energized, and become more efficient for performing their assigned tasks. A state of harmony at all levels (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) can be achieved through regular practice of yoga.
