Write a brief note on the functions of Thyroid

It is a bilobed gland presentation the neck. The two lobes are located an either side of the larynx and connected by a narrow transverse isthmus of tissue across the ventral surface of trachea, just below the larynx.

Thyroid composed of small follicular structures made up of cuboidal epithelium and embedded in connective tissue. It secretes the hormone thyroxine.

Function:

Thyroxin contains iodine which stimulates O2, consumption and increased metabolic rate.

Deficiency of thyroxine during infancy leads to cretinism

Hypothyroidism cause exopthalmia
