The Vaidumbas were an Andhra dynasty who ruled in the ninth century AD, the territories roughly comprising the present Kurnool and Cuddappah districts.

Renandayo was an important place in their territory. Their inscriptions are in Telugu and in Kannada. Among the Vaidumbas Gauda Trinstra ruled around AD. 900; and Santaya Tinnaiya around c.AD 915, the latter bore the title Vikramaditya.

The Vaidumbas had helped the Banas against the Gangas in c.AD 880 in the battle of Soremati. In the days of Parantaka I (Chola), the Chola armies having conquered the Perumpanappadi captured the Vaidumba territory; the defeated Vaidumbas took refuge with Rashtrakuta Krishna III. Arinjayan, the son of Parantaka Chola, married a Vaidumba princess by name Kalyani. His son was Sundara Chola.

The Vaidumbas who hepled Somesvara, the western Chaulkyan king, were defeated and killed in battle by Vira Rajendra I (Chola). There are many hero-stones which commemorate fallen Vaidumba warriors. Vikramaditya Tiruvaiyan repaired a great lake in Vijayadittamangalam.
