The tradition of astrology finds it origin in the Vedic age and it constitutes one of the Vedangas. The knowledge of astrology is significant in respect to determining the good and bad effects of every moment. The ancient scriptures are replete with the knowledge of astrology. Mundkopanishad prescribes for every sensible and curious person to obtain knowledge of astrology.

Scholars have divided the entire period pertaining to astrology in six periods:

(i) Andhkar Kala: from Satyuga to 1000 B.C.,

(ii) Udai Kala 1000 B.C. to 500 B.C.,

(iv) Pun’a Madhya Kala: 500 A.D. to 1000 A.D.,

(v) Uttar Madhya Kala: 1000 A.D. to 1600 A.D.,

(vi) Adhunika Kala: 1600 A.D. to the presents day.
