There is a glut of industrially produced pesticides in the market. Pesticides are used to kill pests and they are neurotoxic. Many of the agrochemicals are not only toxic to the organisms against which they are supposed to act on, but also to other organisms and ecological systems, directly or indirectly. Chemical fertilizers affect the soil pH-balance and stimulate weed-growth.

Insecticides, herbicides and fungicides are agrochemical compounds that are highly toxic and bring about drastic ecological imbalance in plant kingdom. Most of them come under banned chemicals. They cause paralysis, loss of balance of motor functions. Many polynuclear organic hydrocarbons are carcinogenic.

Pesticides cause heavy loss to pollinators, like honeybees and butterflies. They interfere with avian ecology-growth, egg production, shell-thickness, hatching ability and fertility.

Most direct avenues of pesticide contamination, which are harmful to animals and humans, are through ingestion of residues in food products and consumption of seafood and meat, already contaminated.
