Short Notes on Main Provisions of the Treaty of Versailles

The treaty of Versailles was signed between the victorious powers or the Allies and Germany after World War I.

The provisions were:

(i) The treaty declared Germany and her allies guilty of aggression.

(ii) Alsace and Lorraine were returned to France.

(iii) The coal mines in the German area called Saar were ceded to France for 15 years. But the area was to be governed by the League of Nations.

(iv) Germany ceded parts of her pre-war territories in Denmark, Belgium, Poland and Czechoslovakia.

(v) The area of the Rhine valley was to be demilitarised.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

(vi) Germany was to be demilitarised. Strength of her army was limited to 100,000 and she was not required to have any air force and submarines.

(vii) Germany was dispossessed of her colonies which were distributed among the victors.

(viii) Germany was also required to pay for the loss and damages suffered by the Allies during the war. Reparation amount was fixed at $ 6,500,000,000.
