Vikramaditya VI was succeeded by his second son Somesvara III (AD 1126-AD 1138). His activities as a man of letters are more important than his political or military achievements.

He wrote the Monasollasa-a manual of political manoeuvring. The Hoysalas had already begun their career of aggression and terrirotial expansion.

The north and the north-east were also weakening with the threatened rise to power of the Yadavas and the Kakatiyas. His son Jagadekamalla II (AD 1138-AD 1151) was succeeded by Taila HI (AD 1151-AD 1163); the latter was succeeded by Jagadekamalla III (AD 1163-AD 1183).

During the reign periods of these rulers, the Western Cahlukyan power started declining, under Somesvara IV (AD 1184-AD 1200) it went out of history.
