The process of disintegration of the Mughal Empire was also hastened by the Sikh movement. Though the Sikhs did not aim at establishing a centre of political power during Aurangzeb’s reign, yet in the years following his death there occurred a change in the very mature of the Sikh movement.

Taking advantage of the weakness of the later Mughal rulers, the Sikhs wiped out the Mughal authority from Punjab. Thus it is evident that the rebels who had struggled against the Mughal authority during Aurangzeb’s rule ultimately hastened the disintegration of the empire by asserting their regional political independence.

The Jat rebellion was a huge plundering movement initially. Later on, the jats emerged as a political power with the establishment of the independent Bharatpur kingdom.
