Brief notes on Planning Commission of India

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Planning was advocated in India much before independence by individuals, groups, the Congress Party as well as the Government. Number 0f committees had been set up and proposals made for post-war reconstruction and development.

It was, however, after independence that the Government of India set up the Planning Commission in March 1950, to prepare a plan for most effective and balanced utilisation of the country’s resources. The Five Year Plan, in July 1951 which was finalised in the light of public discussion, was submitted to Parliament in December, 1952.
