Write a letter to your foreign friend to describing about Indian marriage

My Dear Kris,

In your last letter, you have asked me to tell you how weddings are performed in India. As per your desire, I am describing an Indian wedding.

The engagement ceremony is conducted by the parents of the boy and the girl; of course both of them are asked their choice. The parents of the bride and bridegroom settle the date by mutual consent. On the fixed date, the bridegroom dressed in his best, rides on a mare and reaches the bride’s house. He gives a princely look. At the bride’s place, the bride dressed in red, garlands the bridegroom. The young men, women, girls and children dance to the romantic tunes of the band. The marriage party gets a grand reception with drinks and dinner.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The bride and the bridegroom are made to sit on a raised Dias for the performance of rituals. The pandits chant the vedic hymns and the marital rituals are performed. The girl is given rich presents, jewelers, cloths and numerous other valuables as dowry. Then, it is the time for the bride to take leave of her parents. It is a moving time for her and her family. The bride goes to the bridegroom’s house.

I would like you to see the Hindi movie “Hum Apke Hain Kaun” to get a better idea of an Indian marriage.

Yours sincerely,
