Sample Letter to your friend regarding extreme heat and pollution in Delhi

Dear Kulwant,

I received your letter last week and was pleased to learn that you were enjoying your holiday in Kashmir. The climate of Kashmir is very pleasant whereas, during the summer, life becomes miserable due to scorching heat in northern plains of India. Kashmir has been rightly called a paradise on earth. Those who are in valley are fortunate to enjoy the beauty of nature. Contrary to Kashmir, Delhi is like a hell these days. It is reeling under the rising mercury. Sometimes, the temperature goes upto 43°C or above. Hot winds continue to blow all the time.

Accompanied with this is the problem of power cut. The higher the temperature, the more the consumption of electricity while there is a continued gap between demand and supply. Production is far behind the demand. It all adds to the woes of people.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The pollution of vehicles adds fuel to the fire. It is raising everyday. People do not seem to have any sense of responsibility towards environment. It is almost impossible to move outdoors in the afternoons and evenings. The traffic moves at snail’s pace in the peak hours because of the heavy rush. There is an acute shortage of water as the supply declines. Increasing population is a major factor that contributes to the problem.

Despite all these, Delhi is always full of activity. Everybody easily takes these hazards. This is a unique feature of the city.

We will talk more when we meet.

Your loving friend,
