Sir,

I shall feel highly obliged and favoured if the following lines are published in your so popular, esteemed and reader-friendly daily, under the columns “Letters to the Editor.” It is about very tough, totally unexpected and out of course English Paper a, set for the Secondary School Examination of the Board this year.

The question-paper was really tough, beyond expectations of the examinees, and a few of the items were out of the course. There was also a lot of repetition as some of the questions were asked last year. Most of the examinees did not fare well in the examination and many of them became nervous on reading the question- paper. There were also a few grammatical and spelling mistakes and errors. It clearly shows that the question- paper was not given due attention and thought, and was not revised before sending to the press.

I am sorry to say that the paper-setter did not keep the syllabus in mind. For example, the topics for essay were beyond the general knowledge and standard of the X class students. Even a brilliant student of class X cannot attempt such a topic as Energy-crisis.” The passage for comprehension was equally tough and lengthy.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

I hope the authorities concerned would take note of these facts and instruct the examiners to examine the answer-books leniently, or it may prove heart-breaking and disastrous for the examinees.

Yours faithfully,
