Letter to a friend asking to be excused for your inability to attend his brother’s marriage

Dear Rajesh,

I am writing this letter to express my sincere apology for my failure to attend the marriage of your dear brother. While hoping that everything had gone happily and joyfully, I would like to say that the day I was supposed to leave for your place, our town got flooded, owing to a breach in the dam. Life was completely disrupted and the usual activity had come to a virtual standstill.

I hope the explanation would make you give up your genuine complaint against me. While conveying my heartiest congratulations to the newly-wed, I promise to come to your place at the first available opportunity to have the benefit of meeting you all.

With regards to your dearest parents and greetings to all other members of the family, specially the newly wed.
