Prafulla Chaki and Kshudiram, the two young revolutionaries of Bengal were deputed by the revolutionary senior leaders to murder Kingsford, the ill-famed Chief Presidency Magistrate of Calcutta.

However, the attempt misfired and two English ladies lost their lives instead. Soon after, Prafulla Chaki committed suicide, and Kshudiram Basu was arrested by the British police near Naini railway station.

Later on, he was sentenced to death by a judgement of the court. Kshudiram made a bold statement before the Magistrate that it was he who had thrown the bomb.

The sacrifice that Kshudiram had made for the cause of the motherland and created a stir among the people craving for the freedom of the country.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Indeed, Kshudiram Basu has become a national hero on account of his sacrifice for the cause of the country. It may be mentioned here that Kshudiram’s heroism became the subject-matter of many popular Bengali folk songs composed by unknown persons.
