Iltutmish was a man of outstanding qualities. Not only that, he ensured the security if the Delhi Sultanate from internal dangers that the state army under the command of the Sultan himself was created. Iltutmish also brought the distant areas of the kingdom within the fold of the central government by distributing Iqta.

He also made Delhi his capital which continued to be the centre of Muslim political activities in India down to 1857. In view of what has been said about Iltutmish may be considered to be the real founder of the Delhi Sultanate.
