The major reasons for the decline of the medieval period were:

(a) The Roman Catholic Church was weakened due to (i) growth of strong national monarchies, (ii) loss of political power of the Popes, (iii) growth in scientific attitude of questioning before accepting anything as the truth, (iv) failure of the Church and government to reform the conditions in society.

(b) Feudalism was replaced by strong nation states rules by Kings with absolute powers, which weakened the powers of the feudal lords.

(c) Growth in trade, commerce and industries led to growth in cities and the rise of a rich middle class that supported Kings to end feudalism.
