(i) There were strikes, clashes with the police and attacks on government buildings.
(ii) Government took repressive measures and forced Satyagrahis to rub their noses on the ground.
(iii) They were made to crawl on the streets and do salaam (salute) to all the sahibs (British officers). People were flogged and villages were bombed.
