During the Swadeshi days various techniques of mass communication was adopted. A new technique adopted was the organizing of the melas and Jatras in villages.

It was Rabindranath Tagore who first recommended the most indigenous method of establishing close link between the politically advanced middle class and the villagers through me/as or fairs.

Rabindranath, though essentially a poet, could not keep himself aloof from the political turmoil which the country had been passing through.

He attended meetings and addressed the public, which roused the popular sentiments.

In his famous address called Swadeshi Samaj he appealed to the youths to devote themselves to the task of rejuvenating the village-life.
