The Revolt of the ratings of the RIN occupies an important place in the history of the Indian freedom movement.

(1) So long the Indian sepoys had been the main instrument through which the British were able to maintain their hold on the Indian empire. Seeing that the virus had affected the army they were in serious doubt whether they could hold India any longer.

(2) The RIN strike was a unique example of breaking down the wall of difference between army and people. The common people rendered all possible help to the striking ratings.

(3) The RIN Revolt showed that it was possible to anite the Hindus and Muslims in a struggle against the British.
