In the midst of a negotiation Mussolini suddenly attacked Abyssinia in October 1935. This was how the Italo-Abyssinian War began.

The importance of the War lies in:

(1) The League of Nations immediately took action against Italy.

(2) Economic sanction was imposed upon Italy as because she was declared an ‘aggressor’.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

(3) But the sanction could not in any way put real pressure upon Italy.

(4) The Italo-Abyssinian War strained relation between Italy. Germany and France.

(5) The isolation of Italy now brought her closer to Germany.

(6) The War paved the way for the Pact of Steel.
