The American Revolution inspired the French people in another way too. It instilled a new spirit of self-confidence to raise their heads against autocracy and aristocracy.

The French soldiers who took part in American War of Independence on their return argued that if the Americans could overthrow the most powerful imperialist power, why could they not overthrow the despotic monarchy in France.

Thus the American War provied a fillip to French Revolution. As Webster has observed: “This War of American Independence became an eye opener to the nations of Europe and in particular gave courage to the leaders of the French Revolution.”
