The Emperor of Russia fled Austerlitz after the defeat and a treaty was concluded between Austria and France on 26th December 1801. It was the third defeat of Austria; hence Napoleon tried to crush completely. The following were the terms of this treaty:

1. Austria gave Venetia, Istria and Dalmatia to France.

2. Austria gave Tyrol and Swabia to Bavaria, an ally of Napoleon.

3. Austria was permitted to retain Trieste.

Importance of the Treaty

Austria lost all her power and prestige and was eliminated from third coalition. She lost all of her Italian territory and was reduced to the second-rate power in Europe as she was completely shattered by defeats.
