Rock cut architecture reached its final phase in Ellora, where the magnificent temples of exceptionally skilled workmanship were carved out of the huge monoliths and were to all outward appearances as well proportioned and even more beautiful than some of the famous structural temples.

The most important of these temples are Kailasa or Shiva’s Paradise, Ravana Ka Kahi or the abode of Ravana, Dasa Avatar or the ten incarnations of Vishnu, Rameshwara or god Rama, Sita’s Nani or Sita’s bath. Of all these, the Kailasa temple is considered a marvel of rock cut architecture.
