Jatavarman Kulasekhara I, son of Vikrama Pandya, rulded from c. 1190 to 1215/16. He did actS of royalty and assumed sovereignty subject to the suzerainty of the Chola and this arrangement was acceptable to both.

In his 25th regnal year he created the Rajagambira Chadurvedimangalam consisting of 1030 Brahmadeyas. This king had a trusted officer in one Kalavali Nadalvan.

The king ruled over Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli and Kanyukumari areas. His thrones had titles like Malavarayan, Kalingarayan and Munaiyataraiyan.

Sometime before his death he appointed Maravarman Sundara Pandyan as his crown prince.
