Napoleon wanted to finish the entire Russian kingdom but Alexander came to the rescue of his old friend, but all the same, Russia was deprived of a great part of its territory.

1. A part of Poland which was with Prussia was taken back from her. The grand Duchy of Warsaw was given to Napoleon’s friend, Duke of Saxony.

2. A new state named Westphalia was created by taking the provinces of Rhine from Prussia. A brother of Napoleon called Jerome was given this state later on.

3. The Prussian army was reduced to twenty two thousand.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

4. Huge reparations were imposed on Prussia. So long it did not pay, a French army was to remain there and Prussia was to bear all the expenses.

5. Prussia promised to close its coasts to the trade of England.

6. Prussia also recognised the new kingdoms created by Napoleon.

Thus, Prussia was reduced to the position of a third-rate power in Europe after the treaty of Tilsit.
