The British Government was enforcing unjust laws. One such law was tax on salt. Mahatma Gandhi thought that this tax was unjustified. Even the poorest of the poor needed salt. He asked his people to disobey the unjust laws of the Government. He started a march from Ashram at Sabarmati to Dandi on the sea-shore. Many people joined him in this march. This is known as the Dandi March. The people led by Mahatma Gandhi went upto the sea-shore and picked up handful of salt and broke the unjust law. Gandhiji was arrested and put in the prison. Thus started the Civil Disobedience Movement, Thousands of people were sent to jails.
