After his conversion to Buddhism, emperor Ashoka laid down its principles in 14 edicts, the Brahmi script engraved on 18 great rocks and thirty polished sandstone pillars throughout the empire.
Of these edicts, edict 9 encourages the practice of dharma. However, all the edicts are somehow related to the spread of Buddhism.
