Yogic diet is free from pungent and sour items. Non-veg food and stimulant beverages are also strictly avoided.

A lacto- vegetarian diet with tolerable amount of cereals but not much of pulses is generally recommended. Egg, though considered as non-flesh food, is not recommended in Yoga because of its high protein contents. Yoga diet is basically a low protein diet.

Asanas should preferably be practised on an empty stomach. If this is difficult, a cup of light tea or milk may be taken before doing asanas.

Asanas may be practised without discomfort one hour after a very light meal. After a heavy meal at least four hours should be given before practising asanas. Food may be taken half an hour after completing asanas.
