Short Notes on the Major Riverine Features of India:

i. Major riverine features marked the journey of the river from the mountain to the plains.

ii. Flowing down the slopes of the Himalayas, the rivers from alluvial fans, flood plains levees, bars and bluffs, these features are mainly outcome of a river’s depositional work.

iii. Sometimes alluvial deposits are found deposited in the middle of the river. Such deposits are called riverine islands and the river is called braided streams. River Brahmaputra has Majuli, Riverine Island which is the world’s largest inhabited riverine island.
