The volcano Licancabur is between Bolivia and Chile. Located between the Region of Antofagasta and the Department of Potosi in the north side of the Cajon Pass Portezuelo.

Located 60 kilometers east of San Pedro de Atacama. It has a height of 5,916 meters, from its top you can see a considerable radius around such as the oasis of San Pedro de Atacama, the Salar de Atacama and Laguna Verde in Bolivia.

On the side of the volcano Lincancabur Bolivia is the Andean Fauna National Reserve Eduardo Abaroa. On its slopes is the Laguna Verde which concentrates large amounts of Andean Flamingos.


The lake in the volcano’s crater measures 90 × 70 Licancabur meters with an area of 0.5 ha and a depth of 5 to 6 meters. Lake is the fifth tallest in the world and although it reaches temperatures of -30 ° C at night, contains many living things, also by volcanic heat, the lake never freezes completely.
