The length of the Krishna deltaic coast is about 90 km. The protuberance is about 37 km. The marked projection of this delta is related to its leeward position near the mainland and relative freedom from strong long-shore drifts or the trimming action of the sea currents.

“The dominance of the terrestrial over marine action results from the lee effect of the Eastern Ghats with reference to the SW monsoon”. The wave action is also limited because of the short fetch in the small bays on either side of the delta, both for the SW and NE winds. All the factors result in an unusual subordination of marine force in the Krishna delta and this probably accounts for the unusual seaward extension of the delta of a river whose basin is about as large as that of the Godavari.
