Weather elements and the wind directions are closely interrelated. If the buildings are oriented keeping in view the wind direction and the position of the sun in the sky in different seasons, then it has direct effect on the wind velocity, precipitation, temperature and the amount of sunshine falling on the outer parts of the building.

If not compelled otherwise, the building should be oriented in such a way that maximum control should be kept on the microclimate associated with it. If the front portion of a building is broad it can endure greater wind pressure than the narrow face of the same under equal wind velocity.

It is specially desired if high temperatures persist. But in case the winds are exceptionally strong or cold, the broad face of the house presents a problem. The main entrance of the house, however, should be protected from high-velocity cold winds.

It is pertinent to know that if a building is oriented with respect to local and prevailing winds or to nearby buildings it determines the effect of the wind on other parts thereof.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Besides, average wind speeds and frequencies from various directions must also receive full consideration because they have some influence on temperature and moisture in the building.
