(i) In March 1985 the Government announced the relicensing of 25 broad groups of industries. For these industries only registration with the Secre­tariat for industrial approval is required, no licenses have to be obtained under the IDRA. In June 1985 relicensing was extended to 82 bulk drugs and their formulations. In December 1985, relicensing was extended to MRTP and FERA companies for 22 industries.

(ii) By the end of December 1985, about 1196 registrations had taken place in the 25 broad industry group relicensed in March 1985.

(iii) By the end of 1985, some 17 MRTP companies had availed of the facility of broad- banding. As for non-MRTP companies, 27 had taken advantage of this provision.

(iv) The available data suggest a strong re­sponse in terms of overall investment intentions in several exempted sectors.

(v) More general indicators show that the climate for industrial investment has also been quite buoyant.

(vi) The limit on investment by small-scale units and ancillaries was enhanced from Rs.20 lakhs and Rs. 25 lakhs to Rs.35 lakhs and Rs.45 lakhs respectively. Nearly 200 items which were on the reservation list were de-reserved and made open for the medium and large scale sector.
