The English East India Company which had already set up a factory at Surat now established another factory at Masulipatam, an important port with the approval of the Sultan.

Estimate

The Sultan died in 1612 after a brief illness. His death was mourned by the people to whom he had endeared himself by his charitable disposition, just rule and kindness. It is said that the king used to distribute two lakhs and forty thousand rupees to poor every year.

He gave liberal grants to ulema and sayyids and provided them with free meals. He constructed several khanqas and madrasas. He was himself a literary person and spent time in the company of scholars. He was a great builder and founded the city of Hyderabad which he beautified with gardens, palaces, hamams, mosques and other magnificent buildings.
