Land is one of the most important components of the life supporting system and has over-used and abused. A major global concern has been whether, at the present rate of population growth, there will be at the turn of the century enough land to meet the long-term worldwide! Demands for food, fibre, fuel and shelter at a reasonable costs or not.

It has been noticed that in many countries, the arable land area is shrinking continuously because of the growing population poorly planned urbanisation, deforestation, unscientific and indiscriminate constructions highways, airports and housing estates and conversion of agricultural land for industrial purpose invariably lead to loss of land available for agricultural activities.
