We live in a suburban town name Naihati. It is not far from the city, of Calcutta. It is situated on the bank of the Ganga, and is linked with Calcutta by road and also by railway lines.

Local and mail trains pass through Naihati Junction Station every half-an-hour or so. Hence travelling to the city is no problem for us. Naihati is an old town, where Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, the famous Indian author, was born.

My father is a Station Master who is now posted at Naihati Station. We live in the railway quarter, side by side with a few neighbours. I am friendly with some of the boys and girls living there.

In our family, we are four: myself, my sister and my parents. I study at the Naihati High School. My sister, who is younger to me in age, also studies in class III in a local girl’s school.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

We have a pet dog called Lucy. Lucy is very fond of me. As soon as I come back from my school, it will follow me anywhere I go. It tries to climb on my lap when I sit on a chair or on a sofa. I love it for its loving nature and gentle habits.

My mother looks after all of us in the family. She is a hard-working lady. She prepares us food, cleans our clothes and buys domestic articles for the family. My father has sometimes to attend office at night. Then she keeps awake until he returns home.

In the early morning, my mother gets up from bed, and awakes all of us. She prepares our breakfast, and sends me and my sister to school. Then she prepares our lunch which we take after returning from school. Ours is a happy home. Our parents are very considerate and affectionate. We are really fortunate that we live a simple and decent life.
