Coal is a black mineral. It is obtained from mines beneath the earth’s surface at depths. Deep holes are dug in coal fields to extract coal from the mines. The miners get into the dark holes by lifts with safety lamps tied to their heads. They dig and collect coal which is lifted on the surface.

Coal is used as fuel in private and industrial plants, for cooking food, and heating purposes such as melting metals, propelling of locomotives and similar other purposes. Coal is also used for ironing clothes by dhobis.

When coal is heated, it produces a kind of gas which, when passed through pipes, gives light and heat at long distances. Coal is found in many countries of the world, such as Great Britain, Germany, Russia, France, China, India and Canada.
