Man has exploited plants and animals intensively and excessively. It has resulted in the ecosystem being disturbed.

i. About 1,300 plant species are endangered.

ii. 20 species are extinct.

iii. A large number of animal species are also endangered and have become extinct.

Major causes of Threat to Nature:

Main causes for this major threat to nature are:

i. Hunting by man for commercial purposes.

ii. Pollution due to chemical and industrial waste.

iii. Acid deposits.

iv. Introduction of alien species and

v. Reckless cutting of forests to bring land under cultivation and inhabitation.
