The warm (Midlatitude) East margin region is located between 30° to 45° north and south of the equator on the eastern margins of the continents in the subtropical belt.

(c) Natural environment

(i) Climate it is affected by the on-shore trade winds in summer and by the off-shore Westerlies in winter (dry). Summers are warm and moist, winters are cold. Annual range of temperature is lower than in the adjacent Midlatitude deserts. Rainfall decreases from the coast to wards the interior.

(ii) Vegetation Mixed forests are found. Deciduous forests are on the plains and coniferous forests are on the highlands. Forests are not dense. Important trees are oak, pine, eucalyptus. There is no under­growth.

(d) Human response

(i) Intensive farming throughout the year due to mild winters.

(ii) Oriental agriculture (subsistence type) is carried on in China. It is based on traditional methods of farming irrigation and drainage. Work is done more by manual labour.

(iii) Occidental agriculture – extensive mechanized farming is done in USA.

(iv) Rice, tea, mulberry are grown under the oriental farming in China.
