Indonesian President Ms Megawati, visited India in April, 2002 on the last leg of a four nation tour. During her visit India and Indonesia, sharing common strategic perception, sought to define a durable partnership in the fields of energy, security and counter-terrorism

She expressed concern at the possibility of India extending support to the rebels in Indonesia Aceh province from nearby Nicobar Island. She reiterated her stand that terrorism cannot be justified on any basis including freedom struggle.

She sought cooperation in the field of energy and for a gas pipeline from Aceh to Nicobar. And also to undertake a joint patrolling of the Malacia straits with US and India.

She also underlined her nation’s commitment to uphold principles of democracy, tolerance and pluralism.
