Of all the plants, Tulsi is considered to be the most sacred by The Hindu no ritual is held complete without tulsi. Tulsi is believed to be an incarnation of the wife of Vishnu, and every pious Vaishnava plant and water a Tulsi plant in his compound.
The daily circumambulation of the plant is believed to be meritorious and the tulsi leaves are said to be capable of purifying the soul and the body.
The plant being an incarnation of Lakshmi, its marriage is performed every year with an idol of Vishnu.
