What are the Responsibilities of the Central Government in School Education?

The following are the Centre’s responsibilities in School Education:

(1) To provide free and compulsory education upto the age of 14 years as directed in the Constitution.

(2) To equalize the educational opportunities with special reference to the reduction of interstate differences and the advancement of the weaker sections of the society.

(3) To make arrangements for the provision of scholarships to the needy and competent students.

(4) To promote vocational study at secondary y level.

(5) To improve standards of education at school stage.

(6) To improve the status of teachers and organize teacher education workshops.

(7) To facilitate and organize non-formal education programme.

(8) To provide open schooling in the remote areas and all parts of the country.

(9) To promote research facilities in the country,

(10) To provide special education programme.
