Some of you would like to start your own business after completing your school education in Home Science. But if you would like to have more training and skill before starting your own business, certain government and non-government institu­tions provide higher education in related fields of Home Science. These institutions are:

1. Polytechnics. These are run by state government or private institutions. These polytechnics have some courses related to Home Science. Duration of these courses may vary from 6 months to 4 years. Some of the courses run by polytechnics are:

One may work in different organizations or may start her own business after getting a diploma from these polytechnics.

Some other non-government institutions offer certificate/diploma courses in different fields of Home Science. These are food and craft institutes, hotel management institutes, fashion technology institutes, etc.

2. Home Science college.

Students passing 10+2 examination with science subjects may seek admission to B.Sc. Home Science. In Home Science colleges, post graduate degree is awarded in different fields of Home Science like Food and Nutrition, Home Management, Clothing and Textile, etc. After attaining M.Sc. degree Home Science one may start teaching in Degree College. Now, to be eligible for college lecturer ship, one has to pass National Entrance Test (NET) conducted by UGC (University Grant Commission).

Some Home Science colleges award diplomas in Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition. For this, degree in B.Sc. Home Sci­ence is a must. The students of Home Science can also work as dietician in hospitals after doing specialization in it. Student’s interests in school teaching have to acquire B.Ed, degree also. For Home Science students, teaching Home Science is one of the subjects on the curriculum of B.Ed.

3. Institutions providing distance education.

Many courses in Home Science are run by institutions providing distance education ft those who cannot get regular education. Some such courses like CFN, ANC are run by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). No formal education is required for these courses many occupations can be started after completion these courses.

4. Industrial Training Institute (ITI)

One may get admission in ITI after passing class. Here training is imparted in different fields of Home Science. Diploma courses in cutting stitching, dress designing, handicrafts, etc. run in these institutions. Nominal fee is charge in these institutes and even financial help to the needy is given by the government.
