Insoluble lightweight powdered substances are readily mixed with water and remain suspended throughout the continuous phase after long time shaking and mixing. The uniform dispersion is based on the size distribution of the particles in continuous phase.

Examples of diffusible substances are Calcium carbonate, Magnesium trisilicate, Bismuth carbonate, Light magnesium carbonate, Kaolin, Rhubarb Powder.

Dispensing Method

Solid powder is finely divided by triturating in pestle and mortar. Make a cream of fine power with small part of vehicle and add more vehicle with stirring or slow trituration. Remove foreign particles, if visible in suspension, by muslin cloth. Mix rinsing in the mortar and pestle and add other liquid ingredients, make up the volume by adding vehicle and mix properly by shaking the final product. Store in suitable container with label having ‘shake well before use’ instruction and dose.
