The development of planets takes place in various stages as given below:

First Stage:

The stars, as stated above, are localised lumps of gas within a nebula. The gravitational force of the lumps causes the formation of a core to the gas cloud and a giant-size rotating disc of gas and dust develops around the dust core.

Second Stage:

ADVERTISEMENTS:

In this stage the condensation of the gas cloud takes place leading to the development of small-rounded objects out of matter around the core. By the process of cohesion these objects develop into ‘Planetesimal’. By the collision and gravitational force of these Planetesimal larger bodies form.

Third Stage:

In the last stage, the larger number of this Planetesimal forms fewer and larger bodies by the process of accretion. These larger bodies are called planets.
