a. Causes of the Liberation Movement:

The most significant feature of the position of Europe in the post-Second World War was the end of her power to dominate the World.

Within a very short period after the end of the Second World War most of the European empires in Africa collapsed. This was due to a variety of reasons.

(1) The colonial powers of Europe devastated by the Second World War were no longer in a position of continues their hold over their colonies.

Naturally in the subjugated countries of Africa forces of the freedom earned strength.

(3) The setting up of the socialist governments in Eastern Europe was also a factor that weakened the power of the imperialist countries of Europe to sustain colonies in far away Asia and Africa.

(4) Another important factor that was responsible for growth of liberation movement in Asia and Africa was the solidarity among the peoples of different colonial countries.

b. Two Independent Countries:

India, an Asian country, achieved her independence in 1947. Britain had to allow independence to Kenya, an African country in 1963.
