To assist the Chief Election Commissioner in the performance of his onerous duties there exists a large paraphernalia of the officers and the staff subordinate to him.

Among them are the Regional Commissioner, Deputy Election Commissioner, secretary, Under Secretary, Research Officers etc. It was only during the first general election. 1951-52 that the president sanctioned four posts of Regional Election Commissioners and only two were filled in for a limited period of six or seven months.

The system of Regional Election Commissioners as provided under Article 324 (a) does not seem to have proved much a success and was, therefore, discontinued at the time of second general elections. In place of the regional commissioners, a new post of Deputy Election Commissioner was created in the Election Commissioner for the first time in 1956.

The service of the Deputy Electioneer are utilized during elections from time to time. It is. However, not a statutory post so far.
