The successful implementation of the physical education programme in the school depends upon the whole hearted cooperation of the Headmaster, members of the staff and the P. E. T. But P. E. T. is the key person. He is the real organizer of the different activities. Some of the function of the P. E. T. in the total school health programme includes:

(i) Provide type of activity for each student;

(ii) Observation of signs including possible disease, defects or injuries among pupils;

(iii) Provide emergency care;

ADVERTISEMENTS:

(iv) Planning of physical activities;

(v) Screening of postural defects;

(vi) Promotion of desirable pupil health and safety practices in everyday physical education activities;

(vii) Health and safety practices that motivate students to establish the same practices;

ADVERTISEMENTS:

(viii) Recognition of fatigue among pupils and adjustment of daily physical education activities to pupil health needs.

It cannot be emphasized too strongly that the teacher of physical education requires an adequate professional preparation. He is not merely a subject teacher, but a person deeply involved in a vital aspect of every pupils’ education and personal development. He does not need to justify physical education, but he needs to understand it and to impart his understanding to all those with whom he comes in contact.
