Clothes are an important part of one’s per­sonality. Buying, stitching, etc. of clothes in­volve expenditure of money and labour.

Storage of clothes is also very important, in addition to the care taken during wash etc. Proper storage of clothes ensures it’s at an appropriate time. It also helps in it’s in maintaining durability as well as the shaping and attraction.

Suitcases, boxes and almirahs are used for storing clothes. Normally, daily wear clothes are kept on hangers in almirahs. Occasionally used clothes are kept in suitcase and boxes.

Common principles for storing clothes

Daily wear clothes:

1. Clothes should be sorted out. Hanker chiefs, socks, vests, etc. should be kept in small drawers.

2. Clothes like shirts, pants, sarees etc, should be put on hangers. This helps in retaining their crease.

After removing clothes, they should be dusted and the sweat should be dried. Cotton clothes should always be kept in boxes after washing and ironing. They should be repaired first. Mothballs or need leaves should be kept along with the clothes so that moulds and fungus do not grow on them.

Woolen clothes

Woolen clothes are stored during summer season. They should be stored carefully otherwise they can be attacked by moth or silver fish. Woolens should be dry cleaned before storing them. Moth balls should be kept with them to avoid insects. Woolens should be kept wrapped in muslin cloth or paper.

Silk and brocade clothes. They should be dry-cleaned first and then stored. They should be wrapped in muslin cloth while keeping in box. Mothballs should not be kept as it spoils the shine of ‘Zari’. ‘Neem leaves’ and clove should be kept in between clothes so that clothes are protected from insects. Dirty clothes should not be kept for storage. The clothes should be dried well before storage. Starch should not be applied before storing them. They become porn’s to insects attack.

If the clothes are stored properly their life is increased and their grace is also main­tained.
