In most of the European countries prices rose sharply bringing greater unemployment and temporary depression. Another economic problem from which the European countries suffered was the resettlement of migrant populations.

Decline in the international trade of the European countries stood as a major obstacle to their economic recovery. In the post-War period the standard of living in Europe became low.
